Putting on
make-up is like painting a wall, if you put paint on a badly prepared wall you
are going to have problems with the paint, it will chip, not stay on in the
first place, it will look patchy or the colour won’t set correctly. It’s the
same with your face. If you do not take care of your skin, if you do not keep
your skin in good condition, it will affect the look of your makeup.
I am a
Natural Health and Aroma Therapist and founder of Holos Skincare from Nature in Ireland and I have some simple but
affective tips for maintaining a perfect base for your makeup. Doing these will
not only give you great skin but will also make you feel good, as they are also
good for your health!
- Drink 1.5 to 2 litres of water per day.
- Substitute caffeine for herbal tea.
- Minimise the sugar treats.
- Eat fruit and vegetables with or between every meal, e.g fruit salad at breakfast, fruit piece between meals, small salad with lunch and dinner.
- Get regular fresh air.
- Exercise every day - a brisk walk, jogging, running, cycling or anything that gets the health rate up for a period of 20 minutes.
- Go without makeup when you can, e.g. at home, at the weekend, work days if you are comfortable with it.
- Cleanse, tone or use a face wash at night, also moisturise. ALWAYS take off your makeup. Use a Face wash or a toner in the morning to freshen the face, also use a moisturiser.
- Use an Exfoliant at least twice a week – this will clean out pores and remove dead skin cells. I recommend Holos - Blossoms Exfoliating Skin Polish (face).
- If you have dry skin, use facial oil every day – this is because the oil will fill in the gaps in the lipid layer of the skin and so give you softer smoother skin. It will also plump the skin up and smooth out fine lines. I recommend Holos – Love Your Skin Anti-ageing facial oil
- If you have oily skin, use facial oil every day – the skin will soon stop producing the oil when it receives the oil from the outside. (this is totally true, believe me I know!)
So if you
are attending an important event, your wedding, an important ball or awards
ceremony, you’ll want to look your best so instead of waiting until the day of
the event, prepare early. Get that base right first by following the steps
above and your makeup will look perfect and you will feel great!
